The best oscilloscope is the one that we like to use and that gives us the information we want to obtain.

Ordered a Rigol DS1054Z oscilloscope.  After a fair amount of research found that a lot of people out there using these so there is a wealth of information.  It has 4 channels! (even though sample rate divided between them).  Can be easily hacked to upgrade to the 100Mhz model.  I won't do this until after 3 year warranty expires.  More than i need

Cheers

Hello own oscilloscope SIGLENT 2104 X PLUS. I am completely satisfied, it has a large display with a touch screen .. countless functions as written about the article above .. I highly recommend .. it is a bit more expensive variant .. we decided on RIGOL .. won SIGLENT .. To count ..

Thanks for responding Strape.

The new oscilloscopes have several functions that I look forward to using and in addition they are easily upgradable with very useful math menu and screen touch.

Just a clarification, Keysight is the new name of Agilent who have been producing these types of devices for 60 years,

Siglent is new on the market I don't know them but it is worth trying.
I wish you good experiences.

Evening all, anyone got any opinions on the FNIRSI 1014D? My budget is very limited and this seems like a decent option for a beginner:

Though I'd like a 2nd opinion for OU and POC purposes.

Hey JenkoRun,

I recommend you get what best suits you. You know your budget, and you know where you are at with the Scope usability, what your familiar with and so on, So I recommend, you get what you feel best with.

I bought a Rigol DS 1104Z and it is a good scope, but it had bad lag times on slower waveforms, down around 1 - 0.5 seconds. I think that's pretty bad in this day and age, so I would not recommend a Rigol DS1104Z unless that's what you have decided what you want and are aware of its problems.

I will be interested in seeing what your final choice is, good luck!

Best Wishes,

   Chris

I have a SainSmart DSO203 pocket oscilloscope and I'm very happy with it until now, I think it's more than enough for a beginner like me, probably an advanced user could find its limitations but for the research I make is working just fine

How about the Link Instruments MSO-28 as a USB-based oscilloscope?

It's 0-100 MHz bandwidth (with 3 dB roll-off starting at 60 MHz) with a spectrum analyzer / FFT resolution of 0.098Hz to 195KHz, accuracy of +/- 0.01%, time resolution of 5 ns and skew of <5 ns, with 2 DSO channel inputs and 8 Logic Analyzer channel inputs, and it's got add-ons you can purchase to increase its ability or protection (USB isolation module, C# DLL library, 8-channel opto-isolator which allows one to view as many as 160 channel inputs simultaneously, and 1x, 10x and 100x probes).

It (and it's older sibling, the MSO-19) are used on the ISS.

Would this make a good scope to do the kinds of experiments we do here?

Hey Prometheus,

Looks like a good start!

My opinion is: Anything at all to view signals is better than nothing! Currents are one of the most important things to view! It can be done with this scope no problem! So a good start for sure!

The ability to view waveforms accurately is critical.

Ok, I finally made my decision for an oscilloscope. It was neck-and-neck between the Analog Arts SL937 and the Link Instruments MSO-28.

I chose the Link Instruments MSO-28, and threw in extra 1x and 10x probes, a 100x probe, and a USB isolator. Later, I'll get the 10x/100x Differential Probe.

Now I have to find a function generator.

Siglent SDS1202X-E

https://www.batronix.com/shop/oscilloscopes/Siglent-SDS1202X-E.html

High quality 2 channel oscilloscope with 200 MHz bandwidth, 1 GSa/s and 14 Mpts memory depth with enhanced math and measurement functions and a 17.8 cm LCD display (800x480 pixel). Serial decoders for I²C, SPI, RS232/UART, CAN and LIN are already included! Come with 2 x 200MHz probes (bandwidth 200 MHz).

Without VAT (you are from america) the price is 380 bucks. Add count plus 42 bucks for shipping via  DHL Postal Premium Parcel it's 422 bucks for 200MHz DSO which is lowest price you can get for such machine.

All usb and other are kinds of toys for kids, not tool for serious researcher like you.

Hi all

I'm looking to upgrade my old TDS210 tektronix, a choice I believe to be the right one is the Keysight / Agilent DSOX1202A which can be upgraded up to 200 Mhz

I would like to know if anyone has used or owns this type of device and how it is in general ??

What is a Scalar:

In physics, scalars are physical quantities that are unaffected by changes to a vector space basis. Scalars are often accompanied by units of measurement, as in "10 cm". Examples of scalar quantities are mass, distance, charge, volume, time, speed, and the magnitude of physical vectors in general.

You need to forget the Non-Sense that some spout with out knowing the actual Definition of the word Scalar! Some people talk absolute Bull Sh*t!

The pressure P in the formula P = pgh, pgh is a scalar that tells you the amount of this squashing force per unit area in a fluid.

A Scalar, having both direction and magnitude, can be anything! The Magnetic Field, a Charge moving, yet some Numb Nuts think it means Magic Science!

The great Nikola Tesla:

Ere many generations pass, our machinery will be driven by a power obtainable at any point of the universe. This idea is not novel. Men have been led to it long ago by instinct or reason. It has been expressed in many ways, and in many places, in the history of old and new. We find it in the delightful myth of Antheus, who drives power from the earth; we find it among the subtle speculations of one of your splendid mathematicians, and in many hints and statements of thinkers of the present time. Throughout space there is energy. Is this energy static or kinetic? If static, our hopes are in vain; if kinetic - and this we know it is for certain - then it is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheelwork of nature.
