My Friends,

I have heard a lot of talk from some high level people lately about a: Universal Basic Income

Personally, I believe all Citizens of the world should have a base limit on Quality of Life! A Universal Basic Income would help to solidify this Quality of Life. But, the big problem is, Goods and Services must remain affordable at the same time! I saw Fuel, Petrol go from $1.05 to $1.44 in less than a day! Criminals are in control of the basic fundamental items that everyone needs and this is where the Universal Basic Income would fail in my opinion.

Elon Musk is a bit of a mixed bag. He capitalizes on the free market, yet panders to socialist nations to make more/more $$. He manufactures in the U.S., yet coddles to the Chinese slave owners for more domain. He appears to have no allegiance to any, but self. Bright/eccentric/self-serving. imho

As the rich oppress us toward absolute poverty, we clamor for a meager pittance to stay alive. Once they have us boot-licking for each our share, they would have us eat each other alive ... perhaps for sport.

Universal income is not conducive toward growth or societal cooperation. Is it not those that already receive free checks, burning the homes and businesses of the hard working? ... tearing down the reminders of our human plight and defacing the common areas where we once had freedom to wander unfettered by hate slogans underfoot ... sprayed on the walls.

A UBI-focused welfare state is based on the assumption that generosity is just about giving people cash. Or at least giving out cash in a way that will make its tech-titan proponents feel better about making money themselves. However, the world is much more complex than policies of redistribution make it out to be.

Through all of the discussion over the UBI, it’s important to remember that one of the best things we can do to improve outcomes for disadvantaged folks is by stopping institutions, and in particular the government, from getting in the way of people recognizing their potential.

We can reform occupational licensing laws. We can promote policy that makes sure everyone has access to a good education.

We can celebrate ordinary people who get wealthy by providing other ordinary people with exceptional things that existed only in science fiction novels a century ago.

And we can do all of this by promoting civility and sympathy for one another. It’s impossible to improve other people’s lives — much less get rich in the process — unless you can first put yourself in their shoes.

Isn't this our very goal here?

There exist people outside "the system". UBI will affect them most negatively. The document "Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars" says that either a welfare-state or successful space program are necessary to keep the show going. I would prefer a successful space program.

Here in Canada, this is called a guaranteed minimum income and everyone is entitled to it. For a capitalist country, this is already good.


If we are talking about communist countries like China or the USSR, that's another thing I think it brings a lot of corruption in their leader who make laws a little weird.
I prefer the lesser evil of the two.

Because the step-mother State has suppressed projects like AU for so long, by protecting the interests of the monopolies and not the people, the last thing I would want is more constraining state control/direction to thwart free enterprise, discovery and development.

I think a UBI state would eventually melt down to the unproductive and productive being forced to another form of unwitting slavery.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Elon Musk, by his drive for the future now, demonstrated that the State was slow and wasteful. It designed by committee not excellence to protect the egos of the project managers and political guides.

The problem is that once someone tastes that power to control such large projects, it seems that it changes their direction from innovation to increasing power and influence. Bill gates is the quintessential example, though Gates was never innovative, just an opportunist.

We have gleaned a lot of good tech from the space programs. If we could only turn half of their attention/funding toward earth instead of the cosmos we would have free energy in a few years.

Humanity must become United!

Humanity must keep their identity's, their religions, their historical backgrounds, their heritage, but at the same time Unite under one Blood Bound Race for All! Just like Star Trek, as CD said!

I don't agree with the One World Order, but this idea is a necessary idea for the future, just run properly with ZERO Corruption and no ONE PERSON can ever have Power!

Hey Friends, some thoughts about the root of the problem. If you see a pit one place, there has to be a mould in another. If we as human beings evolve to a state where EVERYONE cares in first place for Others, and only then look for him self, the injustice and poverty will simply disappearing. Then such an absurd situation, that only six persons are "Owners" of more then the half of all recourses on the planet, would be impossible. When they and other very rich and powerful persons now decided that they will redistribute some of their with most questionable methods earned wealth, it is most likely to buy some tranquility for themselves. And as pointed out such projects would be conduced by the same persons who made their fortunes with greed and extreme egoism. The change has to come from the base. Education in basic human and spiritual values is a must. And not only intellectual knowledge, but practice showing our own example. In order to make this education possible, first we have to take care that everyone has something in his stomach. If people are hungry, or thirsty they will not be able to learn anything. So if the owners of all this wealth are really willing to give something back of what they have stolen, shall it be! But yes of course without burdening more conditions to the unprivileged ones! hello all,

In an ideal world I would be very much in favour of this universal wage idea. It would certainly drag humanity out of the hole of poverty a lot of people find themselves in at the moment. The problem I have is that we don't live in an ideal world and I think that anything like this would come, if not at first, then later, with a lot of conditions, including "we are paying you so we expect something in return". Maybe I'm wrong but with all that's happened lately I just don't trust those in power any more.

Yeah, UBI to me just sounds like another means of controlling people. At first it will be all well and good. Later once everyone has  borrowed against their UBI, the majority will be even worse off. It will be used to enforce compliance by unscrupulous governments threatening the loss of the UBI for non-compliance.

I think Elon Musk supports it because it seems the natural outcome of technology that it must eventually reach a level to where human labor is not needed or wanted. So supporting UBI means he doesn't have to care about the human cost of automation. Just a guess of course, he may have other reasons to support it.

While hurling society toward the ideal, be aware that we will eventually hit the wall of Man's Basic Nature, an unavoidable obstacle not unlike the Borg. Roddenberry's fiction is not an accurate representation of anything we have experienced on Earth to date (except microcosmically in the first century A.D.). Evolution to a different mind-think would require "education camps" replete with a lack of human rights. A Hollywood script can't get us there.

I agree.

Imagine the entire world transitioned from these few persons to another few persons espousing a different ideology with the same or worse outcome.  At least we have national borders and territories where mankind can locally experiment with his limited philosophical views and not drag the planet into the black hole of barbarism. It has been foretold that a global governance is our destiny, regardless.

Hey A,

I am neutral at the moment.

I think Twitter and a lot of places is rife with people making comments that very often get themselves into trouble. A sign of the times! I have done it and afterward very much regretted it! Sometimes saying silly things that could be taken the wrong way by many.

The Human Psyche is under a lot of pressure at the moment.

More than enough struggling has occurred. I wish, I hope we all have better times soon, I feel we have a bit to go yet however.

In the News: Universal Basic Income Is Not An Economic Savior

According to a new study by the left-leaning Roosevelt Institute, a universal basic income could permanently make U.S. economy trillions of dollars larger. While such socialistic policies sound great in theory, history, and data, show it isn’t the economic savior it is touted to be.

To understand why the theory of universal basic incomes (UBI) is heavily flawed, we need to understand what UBI is.

“Basic income, also called universal basic income (UBI), is a public governmental program for a periodic payment delivered to all citizens of a given population without a means test or work requirement. Basic income can be implemented nationally, regionally, or locally, and is an unconditional income sufficient to meet a person’s basic needs (i.e., at or above the poverty line).“

 

The idea of guaranteed income is not a new thing. According to Wikipedia:

“The concept of a state-run basic income dates back to the early 16th century when Sir Thomas More’s “Utopia” depicted a society where every person receives a guaranteed income. 

In the late 18th century, English radical Thomas Spence, and American revolutionary Thomas Paine, declared their support for a welfare system that guaranteed an assured basic income. Nineteenth-century debate on basic income was limited, but during the early part of the 20th century, a basic income called a “state bonus” was widely discussed. 

In 1946, the United Kingdom implemented unconditional family allowances for every family’s second and subsequent children. In the 1960s and 1970s, the United States and Canada conducted several experiments with negative income taxation, a related welfare system. From the 1980s and onward, the debate in Europe took off more broadly, and since then, it has expanded to many countries around the world. “
