Alpine BBX-T600 audio amplifier

Hey, guys

I need your help! I'm trying to put my new amp to work. I do not have much experience using automotive amps.

Here is the manual. I added two 1 ohm / 5W resistors in series on channel 1, plugged the function generator sine wave at 0.2V into the input of the amp and gave it 12V between the Battery and Ground slots:

The first thing I see is that the Power LED does not light up:

I increased the power voltage to 14.4V according to the manual and still no light.

Any ideas?

Hi, additionally you probably also need to supply positive voltage(In most cases) to the Remote connector

Battery(+) and Remote(+) and Ground(-)

I don't know if you fixed your problem.
For the lamp to turn on you must connect the positive and negative to the correct plus and minus terminal and the remote serves as a switch, it must also be connected to the plus battery and with a 3 amp fuse.
Make sure you check the voltage with a meter and check the fuse if it is good. if it doesn't work yet.
You bought a power amplifier type normally it is drive by a preamp so make sure you go slowly with your input signals, it is as if you would have the pedal fully without audio control.

Thanks! I forgot to mention, I'm powering the amp from my linear DC power supply. Jagau, I guess I do not need the 3 amps fuse in this case, right? Is this schema what you mean?

I bought this device for experiments that need AC sine wave primarily. Do you think I'd better return it and look for some other amp?

Hey CD,

Try driving with a Speaker, and your FG, see if it does what you need?

Typical speakers have the right Impedance, and also are functional at low to mid frequency.

Note: Audio Amps are no good at high Frequency, only down in the Audio Ranges.

Ok with your P.S .you do not need to fuse it.

If you connect one speaker only connect it in bridge mode, see your pdf for that.

For frequency it is like Chris said, only in audio range.

Fantastic work CD!

Impedance, the rated 2, 4, amd 8 Ohms Load on your Amp, is typically the Coils Inductive Reactance: XL = 2π f L

2 Ohms is not the DC Resistance, this part is somewhat confusing. Measuring a Speaker will give you a closer approximation.

I observing the typical Speaker Drive Coil, we see it is fairly small with few turns:


It is the Inductance we see, that is important, as the inductance changes when the Speaker Drive Coil is inserted, we see the Load on the Amp change.



  • Voltage = 10 Volts RMS
  • Frequency = 25 Hertz
  • Inductance = 0.5 Henries


XL = 2 π f L = 6.28 x 25Hz x 0.5H = 78.5 Ohms 

Current I = Voltage V / Resistance R = 10 Volts / 78.5Ohms = 0.1273 Amps.

Watts = V I cos( θ ) = 10 x 0.1273 x 1 = 1.2738 Watts.

Hey, guys

Thanks for the advice. I believe this is a successful test of the device:

I had the current limited to 0.3 amps from the DC power supply.

I can now go on with experiments. I'm planning to wind 2 coils with resistance 2 ohms. I'll probably use 0.6 mm enamel wire.

On another note, I'm thinking if I can use my existing coils which have a resistance of about 1.25 ohms.

Any more advice is welcome as I would like to avoid blowing up anything on my bench.
