I thought about making my own site to put my work, schematics, and ideas online, but as Chris is already a curator of these things I'd really prefer to keep my stuff here. The problem is we lose track of things, Sometimes I post things I want to refer back to later and lose track of it. A wiki could solve problems and help us refine and consolidate our ideas and experiments.

Chris, maybe this is something you are already thinking about or planning on doing at some point. I am creating this poll to gauge what others think about this idea. Obviously it depends on you also wanting to do this, and having time to do this. Time is the big limiting factor I think, so don't feel pressured. We are all hindered by limited amounts of it.

Some ideas

  • View access limited to registered users only as an incentive to register.
  • Personal page - if possible every user would have their own personal wiki page they can edit.
  • Registered users can edit most pages and create new pages.
  • Administrative locking/Curated pages - For pages that wind up needing constant cleaning due to differences of opinion.

Anyway, post your ideas and suggestions for a wiki, comment on the above, or share an explanation of why you voted the way you did if you wish. Please vote so we know what you think.

It could be a useful tool to make it easier find specific information, organized by topics . Regarding that any member would be able to edit could end up in a mess, it should be possible to suggest changing or edit a topic, witch would need to be approved by a administrative team on charge of the wiki. This is only a idea , of course the decision is up to Chris and the opinions of all members.

My Friends,

The organisation and sorting, then the referencing and indexing of data, then the retrieval of data is critical in todays world. We have information over load!

I have let google back in for this reason, they are indexing us, but Crazy Domains hurt our indexing.

I have built a Search Engine, but it is still a little buggy, so you type in your search and it specifically searched our websites. A work I am still working on.

I agree, we need something, we have so much information now, its getting hard to find what we are looking for.

In the next week or so, I will post my work on a inter site search feature, so you can have a look.

I'm with Chris on this idea, all that is required is a 'muchly' improved search capability.
Boolean search capabilities would improve the search out of sight.

I'm sure like most others here on the forum the old search abilities became an exercise in futility the larger the information database has become.

I don't want additional information sources, I just want the ability to find the answers to questions more easily.

Hey Zanzal

Idea is good but i think you should concentrate only at research and experiments not to maintain whole site. It is very time consuming and energy consuming process.

In my oppinion, best for you will be to use Chris's site as basic platform. For keeping your stuff here you only need own personal threads, which no one can modify except Chris. Some kind of threads notes, which only belong to you, including posting and editing. About limitations of other users reading your threads, i think will be good to give personal invitation codes to allow reading pages, only those you have chosen.

Aloha

My Friends,

This is very early days, a trial test run, but, try this: http://www.roxiey.com

See if you think this is close to better than the search in the MVC Forum package. The catalog is only aboveunity.com and hyiq.org.

I know I could do way better, it does not contain any Image search or anything yet. But its a start.

If you guys/gals, want to start a wiki, then by all means, please feel free.

I must apologise, I just don't have any more time to spare.

Managing a site like this requires a lot of effort and time for a volunteer.

I do not ask for more and I am very happy on this site in the way it is structured.

Just go elsewhere to understand how good we are here.

Let the site grow with the new way Chris is getting started.

I was thinking again about the suggestion, Jagau is right, the forum is working very well , there is no need for the wiki for the moment, a good search engine for the page would solve the needs to find the required info, and certainly the best using of time is to research, experiment, and share results.

My Friends,

Your suggestions I very much appreciate! Thank You!

I also very much appreciate your support! Thank You! I am always working hard to make our sites the best they can be! I work hard to bring you the information I can! I don't want to over load with too much information!

The Search feature I have built, currently temporarily hosted at roxiey.com is something I have been working on for many months.

Please give me your thoughts, if you think its important, I will spend some time and integrate it into our site.

The great Nikola Tesla:

Ere many generations pass, our machinery will be driven by a power obtainable at any point of the universe. This idea is not novel. Men have been led to it long ago go by instinct or reason. It has been expressed in many ways, and in many places, in the history of old and new. We find it in the delightful myth of Antheus, who drives power from the earth; we find it among the subtle speculations of one of your splendid mathematicians, and in many hints and statements of thinkers of the present time. Throughout space there is energy. Is this energy static or kinetic? If static, our hopes are in vain; if kinetic - and this we know it is for certain - then it is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheelwork of nature.
