My Friends,
Power "Generation" Technology has been shrouded in an almost, secrecy, for a long time, it is however, a very simple Technology!
Here are some Images from a Powertec PT6000 5KWh Petrol "Generator":
Separating the Stator housing from the Rotor:
The Two Pole, Lap Wound, Stator Housing:
The Rotor, Magnetized with a DC Current via Carbon Brushes:
The Stator Housing Wiring:
The Output of the "Generator" is 12 Volts and 240 Volts, and as you can see, there are no Permanent Magnets here!
The Rotor is Magnetized by a DC, Current, via the Brushes seen above. This DC Magnetic Field is Rotated at the rated RPM of the "Generator". Thus, the Rotation Magnetic Field represents a Magnetic Field Changing in Time, relative to the Stator Coils.
Thus, the Value of the DC Magnetic Field, in combination with the Rate of Change, in proximity to the Stator Coils, "Generates" the E.M.F measured in Volts above.
NOTE: An Automotive Alternator works the very same way!
A Changing Magnetic Field B is KEY! This is critical in Power "Generation"!
You can see, we have a series of very specific Parameters here to make this "Generator" run at its rated 5000 Watts.
- The Magnetic Field B ( Rotor Magnetic Field ) Changing in Time t.
- The Turns N ( Stator Coils are the Output Coils )
- The Cross Sectional Area ( Total Area that the Magnetic Field and Coils encapsulate )
- The Energy Density is the Length of the Coils ( Stator Coils - Very narrow, 0.9cm approx. )
These values we have covered many times here on this Forum! Faradays Law! Magnetic Field B is Modulated, by means of Rotation, or as in the above Transformer, AC Current.
Best Wishes,
Chris
