Hi All,

I am from AU in Perth, have dyslexia so reading/writing is a pain for me, I learn mostly through visual observation.

Just wanted to intro my self a bit. Feel free to ask question at anytime as I am mostly an open book.

I am not sure if there is a question area to put in if we have technical question etc.

For now I will just ask one here.

I just got my DSO (so still learning how to use it) and have tried to find the resonant frequency of my coil.

I followed the instruction on a video Chris did titled "Sweep to find Coil Resonance".

I got to about 80khz and had my coil go from 18v pk2pk to about 100v pk2pk. This seems excessive to me based on what was in the video Chris did.

Probe set to x10 same with x10 in the DSO settings. I am unsure of the proper connections as in the video it is hard to tell.

I had one lead of the coil connected to my Victor 2002 sine gen on the red connection, the other end connection to my DSO probe and both the grounds connected together.

I have a video I made and posted to my YT, if it help I can share the link.

Looking forward to some cool experiments and maybe even some AU.

So far I have learnt a tone, thank you Chris and All for the great work.

Your Pk to Pk sounds about right. Resonance is a big difference in amplitude, and that's the point.

Chris, thanks.   I built a joule thief circuit a few months ago and saw the effects there.   Powered by a 1.5v AA battery.    Bifilar coil and bunch of LEDs.      Now I'm ready to move on to something bigger.      I wound a few coils and tried to build a circuit to power the coils but keep burning out my transistors.     I think I will try and buy a signal generator.

Is there an experiment that really spells out exactly what to build to demonstrate the phenomenon on this site?    Like take this size wire, wind x turns, around a ferrite coil base with this part number, etc.     It would be helpful to have a quick starter experiment that will pave the way to more complicated projects.

What is a Scalar:

In physics, scalars are physical quantities that are unaffected by changes to a vector space basis. Scalars are often accompanied by units of measurement, as in "10 cm". Examples of scalar quantities are mass, distance, charge, volume, time, speed, and the magnitude of physical vectors in general.

You need to forget the Non-Sense that some spout with out knowing the actual Definition of the word Scalar! Some people talk absolute Bull Sh*t!

The pressure P in the formula P = pgh, pgh is a scalar that tells you the amount of this squashing force per unit area in a fluid.

A Scalar, having both direction and magnitude, can be anything! The Magnetic Field, a Charge moving, yet some Numb Nuts think it means Magic Science!
