in the past i had some troubles with this website. the scrolling especially on long threads was annoying. many times my browser quit working - not a good thing at all...

i'm on ubuntu linux 22.04 LTS and removed 'snap' completely from system.

instead i use the old 'apt' package manager and installed Brave browser.

and soon all the performance issues here are gone!

all pages that lagged in the past are now on steroids.

maybe this can help other linux users.

regards

Hey Baerndorfer,

I agree, long threads are a pain! And Browsers do make a difference! As does Add On's in the Browser, even YouTube Videos loading, take some time on some threads slowing the whole lot up!

Thanks for posting this to help others out some! I appreciate it My Friend!

Best Wishes,

   Chris

My solution is a javascript toggle firefox addon, but things like 'like' and the featured editor won't work. Long threads load extremely fast.

So how does one get rid of Snap and it not be added back?  It is built in. I have been on ubu20 long time. As is, I just had to update again as things start not working. Have no problem of selective updates as I used to do with Linux. Main browser is Brave too.

if you wanr to run 'snap list' on your system it will show the installed snaps

If you find packages installed under snap list, you’d have to remove them by using the command 'sudo snap remove --purge package-name'

in the next step you should clear the snap cache with 'sudo rm -rf /var/cache/snapd/'

once done, we can remove the snap package as well as the snap gnome plugin with 'sudo apt autoremove --purge snapd gnome-software-plugin-snap'

get rid of snap preferences with 'rm -fr ~/snap'

these commands will remove the snap repository from your machine and even the Ubuntu software center. you won’t have snap package recommendations and neither suggestions. if you try to install the chromium browser, ubuntu would now ask you to download snap as a package dependency.

works fine for me!

What is a Scalar:

In physics, scalars are physical quantities that are unaffected by changes to a vector space basis. Scalars are often accompanied by units of measurement, as in "10 cm". Examples of scalar quantities are mass, distance, charge, volume, time, speed, and the magnitude of physical vectors in general.

You need to forget the Non-Sense that some spout with out knowing the actual Definition of the word Scalar! Some people talk absolute Bull Sh*t!

The pressure P in the formula P = pgh, pgh is a scalar that tells you the amount of this squashing force per unit area in a fluid.

A Scalar, having both direction and magnitude, can be anything! The Magnetic Field, a Charge moving, yet some Numb Nuts think it means Magic Science!

The great Nikola Tesla:

Ere many generations pass, our machinery will be driven by a power obtainable at any point of the universe. This idea is not novel. Men have been led to it long ago by instinct or reason. It has been expressed in many ways, and in many places, in the history of old and new. We find it in the delightful myth of Antheus, who drives power from the earth; we find it among the subtle speculations of one of your splendid mathematicians, and in many hints and statements of thinkers of the present time. Throughout space there is energy. Is this energy static or kinetic? If static, our hopes are in vain; if kinetic - and this we know it is for certain - then it is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheelwork of nature.
